Where The Heck Have I Been?

Ok..if anyone actually reads this blog, they must be wondering where the heck I've been, since it's been forever and a day since I've posted. I suck at this blog thing, clearly, I am too busy LIVING my life instead of writing about it in a blog, but alas, I am trying at least to keep up here.

So let's see..what's new? Well, I did NOT get cast in Anything Goes at Olney Theatre. I was a bit shocked, especially since I've worked with the director before and for that theatre before, and I thought I did ok at auditions. Well, truth be told, my audition was better than my callback. I guess I'm just rusty--I don't audition every week like I used to in my 20s...LIFE has taken over I guess, and what can I do? Other things are taking priority and I guess that only makes sense.

I am still choreographing though, which keeps me somewhat in the professional theatre loop, albeit not as much as I'd like. I am currently working on 2 projects: I am choreographing Annie Get Your Gun for Potomac Theatre Company opening in mid-November, and I am choreographing 2 pieces and dancing in a duet for the 3rd annual True To Form, D.C. Choreographers' Showcase to be held November 5 and 6th at Joy of Motion Dance Center in Friendship Heights.

Annie Get Your Gun is going well, although I don't have much of a cast of dancers to work with. There are maybe 1 or 2 cast members who move well, and the rest are really just actors and singers who have difficulty with complex movements. I have to limit the complexity of the choreography, but I think it will work out fine for the show...it's not one of those big dance shows, so it should be fine.

The True To Form work is going well too, although rehearsals for that are only 1x a week on Sunday nights...cause that's the only time I could get rehearsal space. I have finished choreographing 1 of my pieces (the duet) and the other piece, a solo for the lovely Ann Behrends, is almost done, I just need to finish about 30 seconds of it at the end.

The big fear I am having is the 3rd piece that I am dancing in. I am totally out of dance shape, and I don't want to look like a total idiot. I haven't had time to get to dance class at all, and probably won't until after the concert, mostly because I am teaching at NCDA as well as rehearsing, so life has been crazy.

To top it all off, I have begun renovation on my kitchen! Yes, it was time. I am getting new cabinets, countertops, floor, appliances, the works....and I am doing it all with the help of Robert, who has been such a sweetheart through this whole process. We have already started assembling the cabinets (all the wall hanging cabinets are done), and this weekend we hope to start demolishing the current cabinets (yuck) and hopefully next weekend we can start putting the new cabinets in, just in time for the arrival of the new appliances. Keep your fingers crossed...it's never easy to do home improvements by your self. At least the granite countertops will be installed professionally, so that's a relief and a pressure off!

On a political note, I am pleased as punch that the Monkey is finally getting SHOCKED! He is getting his due isn't he, the village idiot from Texas! WOOHOO! It's so pleasurable to watch him slowly get roasted over the coals--the Katrina fiasco, the Mieirs debacle, the Rove incident, the DeLay disaster! YAY! Yay! Yaaaay! Cry havoc! And unleash the dogs of war! It's time for the Monkey to get what he deserves!
