The Whales of August...

Remember that movie that came out in the 1980s called The Whales of August? It featured the final silver screen performances of two goddesses of American film, Lillian Gish and Bette Davis?

No? Good, neither do I. I never saw it actually, and have absolutely NO idea what it was about.

But I thought the title worked well for this blog entry so I used it. At least you can't say I'm pretentious.

It is August indeed, and it's HUMID. and HOT! Well, this is Washington, D.C., the swamp that is our Nation's capital and that is only to be expected I guess...everyone knows August is a sticky one for us DC folks.

So, what to do? Well..stay indoors actually...with the AC cranked on maximum.

Oh and yes, remodel your kitchen. I know, totally from left field...but I have decided to remodel my puny little kitchen in my condo. Why? Well, because 1) I'm sick of looking at it and 2) I think it will boost the re-sale rate of my condo by a lot.

Here's the problem...I am not alone. It seems EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE in the DC metropolitan area has ALSO decided to remodel their kitchen...i've been trying to get an appt. at Home Depot for like 2 months! Hello? How weird is that? He's a kitchen designer, not the Shaw of Iran...he's not President Bush...I should be able to meet with him without having to set up a vigil outside his disgusting Presidential Ranch in Crawford Texas.

I shouldn't have to be branded a "traitor" just to get my kitchen remodeled. Should I?

Have we come to this?

So, finally I got an appt. last Saturday, and went and I got my hour (full of 5-10 minute interruptions, but hey, I'm not picky) and my kitchen is now designed.

The only problem is that I changed my mind, and now I want a different style of cabinet and I want more space for the fridge, and...voila..I am in Design Hell!

So, now it seems I will have to wait until September (!!) to get another appt...which is fine, since I don't want to start the actual remodeling until October when my parents have left from their visit (and that's a whole other Blog entry now, isn't it?)
